🇷🇺 5 Funny Soviet Words & Expressions You’ll Actually Understand

One of the fastest ways to improve your Russian is to learn vocabulary through culture—not just grammar.

Here are five authentic words and expressions inspired by Soviet everyday life. Even today, Russians still use many of them in conversations, jokes, and family stories.

1. Пакет с пакетами

Literal translation: A bag of bags

Many Russian families had one large plastic bag filled with… more plastic bags.

Don’t throw it away. It might come in handy.

A phrase every Russian learner should know.
